PROGRAM

Session 1:

  • Spurious correlation in omics data.

  • Omics data are compositional, even when there are zeros. Principles and definition of compositions.

  • Specific tools for compositional analysis: variation matrix, CoDa-principal components and CoDa-dendrograms.

  • Introduction to CoDaPack and first exercises.

Session 2:

  • Zeros in compositional data sets. First approach to count data.

  • Data sets contributed by the attendants. Discussion of problems.

  • More on CoDa-principal components, variation matrix, and their interpretation.

  • Discussion of some microbiome data set or similar (CoDaPack).

Session 3:

  • Compositions represented in Cartesian coordinates (ilr).

  • Regression with compositional response.

  • Linear association of taxa and its detection.

  • Practical session using R.

Session 4:

  • Large compositions: orthogonal projections, grouping taxa, amalgames,

  • Principal balances.

  • "Selbal" as a method to simplify explanatory variables.

  • Discussion of selected cases (practical session).
